You were added to a Telegram or WhatsApp group full of people sharing screenshots of big trading profits. A friendly teacher posted daily signals. An assistant messaged you privately to help you open an account. Now you cannot withdraw. Telegram and WhatsApp investment group scams are everywhere. Here is how they work and what to do.
Telegram investment scam: What to do right now
- Stop all deposits and fee payments.
- Export the group chat and your private chats before you leave or get removed.
- Screenshot the group name, invite link, admins and member list.
- Save every platform screenshot, deposit receipt and wallet address.
- Report the group and the accounts inside Telegram or WhatsApp.
- Report to the police and a fraud centre: the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), Action Fraud, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or Scamwatch.

Check the platform
Search the platform on the FCA Warning List and the IOSCO I-SCAN. Many fake trading platforms used in these groups appear on regulator warning lists within months of launching.
Why it feels so convincing
Group scams use social proof. When dozens of people seem to be winning, it feels safe to join. But those people are usually scripted accounts run by the same team. The teacher and the assistant work from the same playbook, and the platform is controlled by them too.
Protect your phone number
Once you are in one scam group, you are likely to be added to others. Change your privacy settings so only contacts can add you to groups. On WhatsApp this is under Privacy then Groups. On Telegram it is under Privacy and Security then Groups and Channels.
Do not trust the rescue group
After a group shuts down, a new group sometimes appears claiming to help victims of the old one. It may promise compensation, a lawsuit or an official refund. This is another scam targeting the same people. Real agencies do not recruit victims through Telegram groups.
What to type when you look for help
Search for the platform name plus scam or warning, and look for official regulator pages first. Avoid any result that asks you to message on Telegram or WhatsApp for help.

You can, but many members are fake. Your report to the platform and authorities protects more people.

- ✗ You cannot see member numbers, or the group is admin only
- ✗ You are pushed to a private chat with an assistant
- ✗ The platform is not on any official app store or regulator list
- ✗ There is pressure to join a VIP plan before a deadline
