BTC Pool Miner — flagged app

BTC Pool Miner — Update and Agree to Lose Your Assets

Verdict up front: BTC Pool Miner’s own release notes say that “if you have updated this app version, it means you have agreed to the risk of losing assets in the old app version”. Users report buying miners worth up to $144, then being locked out, with balances, machines and purchase records gone. The app is rated 3.0 stars with 50,000+ downloads.

The sentence in the release notes

From the listing, version 2.3

“We sincerely apologize to you for big change from renting old mining equipment to purchasing new mining equipment. If you have updated this app version, it means you have agreed to the risk of losing assets in the old app version.” It goes on to encourage buying multiple miners, “maximum recommended purchase is 20 units for all types”.

Read that as a customer. You paid for equipment. The operator changed the model, and declared that installing the update — something most phones do automatically — counts as your agreement to lose it. In the same paragraph, it recommends buying up to twenty new units.

What users report

RICLEY, 12 December 2021, starts with “WARNING SCAM”: he bought the most expensive miner, $100 AU (about $144 US), then could not log in or reset his password. When that was fixed, he says, “there is nowhere to send your money when you hit that exchange now button, your money disappears”.

William Sipes, 25 June 2022: after an error, “my money, bitcoin, machines are all gone” — the account loads with his name on it and nothing else. Pang Kong yew, 20 October 2024: after reinstalling, “all my buy record empty”.

Three reviews, three years apart, describe the same outcome: what was bought disappears, and the account that held it is either locked or wiped.

Prices in rupiah, a gallery in English

The miner list in the gallery is priced in Indonesian rupiah — BTC Miner LV1 at IDR 35,000 up to LV6 at IDR 210,000 — alongside an English-language withdrawal screen asking for a BTC wallet address and a “miner’s fee”. The developer, YYN Dev, gives no company name or address on the listing.

Why “agreed to the risk” matters

A legitimate business that changes its product migrates customer balances or refunds them. It does not rewrite the terms so that an automatic update counts as consent to lose them. That clause is the operator telling you, in advance, who carries the risk.

Before you pay any mining app

Four checks take less than two minutes. Read the full description for the words simulation, virtual or for entertainment. Find the withdrawal minimum and compare it with what one day of “mining” adds. Look at the Play category and the developer name: a mining app filed under Tools or Productivity, or published under a personal name or a string of keywords, is avoiding scrutiny. Then sort the reviews by newest and read the one-star ones about withdrawals. If none of those checks passes, the only safe amount to spend is nothing.

  • Read the “What’s new” section. Release notes can contain the most honest sentence on a listing.
  • “Updating means you agree to lose assets” is a reason never to deposit.
  • Buying “equipment” in an app buys nothing you own.
  • An account that loads empty after an error has told you where your balance really lived.

If you have already paid

Cancel any subscription in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions), not inside the app. Request a refund through Google Play while the charge is recent. Screenshot your balance, the withdrawal screen and every purchase before anything changes. Turn off automatic updates for the app until you have a copy of your balance. Then report it at IC3.gov, or to Action Fraud in the UK.
