GOBTC Warning — Cash Crypto Swaps in Montenegro, Unlicensed

Verdict up front: GOBTC (gobtc.me) advertises itself, in Russian, as a “crypto exchanger in Montenegro” — buying and selling cryptocurrency for cash, swapping roubles and hryvnias, and sending money across Europe. The Capital Market Authority of Montenegro warned about it on 8 May 2026.

Cash, crypto and cross-border transfers

GOBTC offers to buy and sell crypto for cash, exchange roubles and hryvnias, make “SWIFT, MasterCard card-to-card transfers from €1000”, and send money from Montenegro to Russia, the UAE, Ukraine, Italy, Czechia and Germany, with “transfer and cash-out on the day you ask”. Those are licensed services almost everywhere.

Why unlicensed exchangers are a risk

A licensed exchanger must check identity and the source of funds. An unlicensed one may not — which can leave you holding coins or cash later traced to fraud, or simply handing money to someone who disappears. There is no regulator to complain to.

A Montenegro office, a Ukrainian phone

The site mentions an office in Budva with a banknote-checking machine, but the only contact is a Ukrainian mobile number on chat apps. No company name or registration appears on the page.

Property for crypto

A separate section offers real estate in exchange for cryptocurrency. Large property deals paid in crypto through an unlicensed intermediary carry serious legal and money-laundering risk for the buyer.

Your own check on GOBTC

Go to the authority’s register of licensed investment firms. Enter gobtc.me first, then the trading name “GOBTC”. Its warnings are also mirrored on IOSCO I-SCAN. A WHOIS lookup on gobtc.me shows how new the address really is. If you are outside Montenegro’s Capital Market Authority’s country, check your own regulator as well.

Lost money with GOBTC?

Freeze contact about new deposits; GOBTC will push hardest right now. If you paid in crypto, write down the wallet address and transaction hash and report them to the exchange you sent from. Capture the GOBTC balance page and trade history today — these sites vanish.

  • Phone your bank or card issuer and ask about a chargeback or a recall of the transfer.
  • Use Montenegro’s Capital Market Authority’s online form to report GOBTC.

The verdict: GOBTC moves cash and crypto across borders without the licence Montenegro requires. Do not use it.
